Using this cost-effective way to improve the chances of recovery from addiction may be the best way to show the community that recovery works and that recovering addicts can become model citizens. Oxford Houses have an 80% success rate, nationally.

Residents can live in the home as long as they don't drink alcohol nor use drugs and they pay their share of expenses. That said, one year is the average length of stay, but many residents remain for three years of more.

Generally an individual comes into an Oxford House following a 28-day rehabilitation program or at least 10-day detoxification program.

1. The house must be self-‐run on a democratic basis; 2. The house must be financially self-‐supported; and 3. Any resident who drinks alcohol or uses drugs must be immediately expelled.
